A Sick Xmas Day Poem

As I lay here all alone
On this Christmas day
My body wracked with pain
In bed I must stay

The tree stands tall and bright
But it brings me no cheer
As I lie here in the dark
Wiping away my tears

I long for the warmth
Of loved ones by my side
But they are far away
And I am left to hide

The cough that shakes my chest
The fever that burns my skin
I try to fight it off
But it just won't give in

The silence of the house
Is deafening in my ears
As I lay here, sick and tired
Wishing for a different year

I try to find some joy
In the holiday season
But all I feel is sadness
And a sense of trepidation

I wish I could be with those
Whom I hold dear
But instead I'm stuck here
Feeling alone and queer

So I'll just close my eyes
And try to rest a while
Hoping that tomorrow brings
A brighter, healthier mile
